Les Mis – Week 3

The third week of rehearsals for Les Miserables 2012 at the National Theatre in Reykjavik has commenced.
This is a fresh and spirited new set design but the heart of the show is of course maintained with vigour.

Kate Flatt, original and ongoing choreographer for LesMis came and worked with us for two solid weeks. The cast is very excited and dedicated. We’ve started on staging the prologue this week and it was a thrill to see the new set and be a part of creating a unique show.

The show premieres on March 3rd.

First LesMis Rehearsal

Tomorrow I’m going to have a peek at the first LesMis rehearsal at the National Theatre; the cast will be starting on “At the End of the Day”; it will be fun for me to sidle in and do my “what is this fighting all about” just to warm up and get things going. I’m also looking forward to meeting cast members again and hearing them work through this signature LesMis song. I’ve had a good look at the Icelandic lyrics for Jean Valjean and I’m very excited. Full-on rehearsals start on January 2nd, but there will be a few calls before Christmas just to get a jump on things.

The CD Von or “Hope” is now out with songs written by the renowned Icelandic saxophone player, arranger and singer/songwriter Stefán S. Stefánsson. Yours truly sings six songs on the album, including a duet with singer Regína Ósk.

Les Miserables 2012

For those friends abroad who’ve been asking about tickets for Les Miserables at the National Theatre in Reykjavik, they are on sale, shows starting on 9 March. The shows are set on Fri/Sat/Sun at 7:30PM at the moment.

Help Them

It is my honour to be a part of this song. It is made by Icelandic artists, now for the first time in English. The Icelandic version has raised money to help our brothers and sisters in Africa for decades, and now the focus is on recent events. This time the song will be given to international aid agencies and every time the song is played on the radio all proceeds go to the cause.

I sing the line going “On TV pictures appearing, on the news we are hearing that starvation…” the second time your hear it in the song.
